Inter-board Connections at up to 125Mbytes/sec
HEART is a Real Time architecture that uses FIFO connections to guarantee the bandwidth and latency of a data connection. A feature of HEART that is fairly unique is that it was designed to support the same type of Real Time connections between Module carrier boards. This means that you do not need to use non-Real Time connections like the PCI bus to be able to use more than one board in your system. You can connect as many carrier boards as you need with whatever connectivity you need!
Using a standard cable to connect between the boards, the software
configurable architecture programs the connections between the boards in the
same way that the on board connections are programmed - Making your system
seem as if it is a single larger Module carrier.
You can even connect between PCI and Compact PCI carriers like this - even if
one of them is effectively embedded and has no host
controller, you can still load control and run the system!
